Post Pandemic China Travels And Recollections of China IPOs

A short trip to Dali brings back sweet memories of pre-pandemic travels in China.

Staying overnight at a Dali village 48km from Lijiang, the crisp Spring air and star dotted night skies reminded me of a 2009 Coal Mine IPO project and the wonderful weeks spent in Huaping county 2 hours from Panzhihua. The rustic scenery in Huaping and Lijiang, the pounding heart descending down the coal mine shafts as part of legal due diligence the day after an earthquake near Dali and meals at village eateries near the coal mines were most unforgettable.

Those were the hey days of Chinese IPOs on Singapore and Malaysian stock exchanges with me traveling far and wide in China from Yunnan to Wuyishan to Ansi and Quanzhou in Fujian Province and all the way to Changsha in Hunan.

Today, IPOs (and M&As) remain the mainstay of our legal services in JLPW Malaysia with our teams working on IPOs in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, London and New York.

In recent months, we assisted China IPOs by carrying out legal due diligence work and compliance legal opinions for Malaysian subsidiaries of Chinese companies listing on Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges.

I’m looking forward to meeting Beijing IPO lawyers in 2 weeks time in Beijing for mutual sharing of our experiences handling IPOs in our respective jurisdictions.
